GAC strengthens local EV production with full CKD shift under Indomobil

GAC Indonesia has stated that it will continue to increase its electric vehicle production activities in the country.
All models currently marketed are assembled locally under a completely knocked down (CKD) scheme, in accordance with the company's supply chain strategy.
GAC Indonesia Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Andry Ciu, stated that the transition from imported completely built up (CBU) units to local production is in progress. This applies to the Aion, Hyper HT, Aion V, and Y Plus models.
"All models are now CKD, and the Aion is no longer CBU. This includes the Hyper HT, V, Y Plus; all are CKD," Andry said recently in North Jakarta.
Andry further added that GAC had not encountered production capacity constraints because the manufacturing facilities operated under Indomobil, as a National Assembler, had several factory areas. If the capacity of one facility reaches its maximum level, the production process can be transferred to another available facility.
"Indomobil, as a National Assembler, already has four manufacturing areas, so we never lack production capacity," said Andry. "If the current Aion factory reaches maximum capacity, we can move to a third factory. The third factory will have a capacity of over 150,000 units in one area and will begin operations in February," he added.
The GAC Aion factory located in Purwakarta, West Java, adopts the "Lighthouse Factory" concept, which involves automation, intelligent production systems, and measures aimed at reducing environmental impact.
The plant is designed to allow changes to vehicle production lines within 30 minutes and currently operates at 3 JPH (Jobs Per Hour), which is planned to increase to 5 JPH.
Initial production capacity will be 20,000 units per year, with plans to increase this to 50,000 units per year. The first model to be assembled locally is the Aion V.
The plant will produce sedans, SUVs, MPVs, and 7-seater models for domestic and export markets.
