Taiwan is on the verge of a significant milestone in automobile exports, as Toyota plans to establish production lines for two of its popular MPVs, the Noah and Voxy. These models are scheduled for export to Japan by 2026.
Recent reports from Japanese media suggest that both the Noah and Voxy will be localised for mass production in Taiwan. Currently, these models are primarily available in Japan and select Asian markets, featuring right-hand drive configurations.
The Noah, a mid-sized MPV positioned between the Sienta and Alphard, is in its fourth generation, launched in 2022. It is the first in its series to utilise the TNGA-C platform. The Voxy, on the other hand, boasts a sportier design and serves as the performance-oriented counterpart to the Noah.
At present, both models are assembled in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The new production line in Taiwan will run alongside the existing one in Aichi, ensuring continued supply to the Japanese market without displacing local production. This dual production strategy suggests that both Japanese- and Taiwanese-made Noah and Voxy models may be available after 2026.
Experts believe this strategy could help reduce long wait times resulting from limited local production capacity. However, Toyota may face challenges related to import costs, supply stability, and consumer acceptance of products manufactured in different regions.
