Tesla opens second-largest EV fast-charging site

Tesla has launched a new Supercharger site at Moonee Beach, NSW, making it the second-largest EV fast-charging site in the country.
The 15-stall location is positioned just north of Coffs Harbour, catering to road trip traffic, particularly for those travelling between Sydney and Queensland. The site supports Tesla's efforts to develop EV infrastructure accessible to all Australians.
The Moonee Beach site features Tesla's V4 Superchargers, each capable of delivering 250kW of charge. This charging technology enables most EVs to be charged quickly, reducing wait times for drivers.
The chargers are also available to non-Tesla EVs. Thanks to co-funding under the NSW Government's EV Strategy, the site is open to any CCS2-compatible vehicle, benefiting all EV owners in the region.
A feature of the site is the inclusion of dedicated drive-through charging bays, which allow drivers with trailers, boats, or campers to charge their vehicles without needing to unhitch.
Previously, EV drivers in the area primarily used the six-stall V2 Supercharger site in Coffs Harbour, which is limited to 150kW.
A temporary two-stall setup near the Big Banana was also available, but neither matched the size or charging speed of the new Moonee Beach station.
With 15 stalls, Tesla has enhanced the mid-north coast corridor, making Moonee Beach a key stop on Australia's eastern EV highway.
Moonee Beach's status as the second-largest site in the country is expected to be short-lived, as Tesla's 20-stall Supercharger hub in Goulburn nears completion. This site is set to take the lead in national rankings once operational.
Currently, the largest Supercharger site in Australia is in Albury, with 16 V4 Superchargers, commissioned in December 2023.
The expansion at Moonee Beach is part of a broader government-supported initiative to promote EV adoption across New South Wales.
David Malicki, Team Lead of Net Zero Transport at the NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change, acknowledged Tesla's efforts, noting that the new site is another milestone in the state's EV strategy.
Public investment in EV infrastructure is helping Tesla and other operators to accelerate the rollout of open-access charging stations.
Elsewhere in the country, Tesla recently opened a six-stall V3 Supercharger in Townsville, which is also accessible to all EVs.
While smaller than the Moonee Beach site, it contributes to expanding EV coverage across Australia.
