Jakarta launches EV garbage trucks to combat air pollution, emissions
Kabar Oto, 16 Apr '25
The Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH) has started operating compactor-type electric garbage trucks to assist in environmental cleaning and reduce air pollution in the capital city.
The use of electric garbage trucks is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's (Pemprov) efforts to reduce air pollution and carbon emissions from the transportation sector.
Asep Kuswanto, Head of the Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH), stated that five units of electric compactor garbage trucks have been purchased this year.
Additionally, the procurement of electric garbage trucks is part of the renewal of the garbage truck fleet owned by Jakarta DLH.
These electric garbage trucks have a capacity of 6 m3, with dimensions of 3,300 mm in length, 1,700 mm in width, and 1,950 mm in height, and an empty weight of approximately 1,700 kg.
The trucks use a plug-in system and are capable of compacting waste automatically with minimal noise. Their operation requires 1.5 kW of 3-phase power.
The vehicles can be charged using a super-fast charging system, allowing the battery to be fully charged in 20 to 30 minutes.
To support the operation of these electric garbage trucks, training has been conducted for operators.
"The operation is straightforward and different from conventional diesel-fuelled compactors, so the adaptation process has been smooth," explained Asep.
