Tesla discontinues Launch Series of facelifted Model Y in Malaysia

Tesla has discontinued the Launch Series versions of the facelifted Model Y, codenamed Project Juniper, less than three months after the updated electric SUV was introduced in Malaysia.
Buyers will no longer receive the additional features included in the limited edition, and vehicle performance will change accordingly.
Launch Series units were equipped with a Plaid-style badge, puddle light logos, side sill scuff plates with Launch Series branding, and a "vegan leather" dashboard trim for models with black interiors. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive (LR AWD) variant also included an Acceleration Boost function, reducing the zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time by half a second.
With the removal of this feature, the LR AWD model now takes 4.8 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, compared to 4.3 seconds previously.
The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model remains unchanged at 5.9 seconds. Other specifications remain the same, with the RWD variant offering a range of 466 km and the LR AWD variant achieving 551 km, both measured on the WLTP cycle.
The Juniper facelift incorporates design changes previously introduced on the Cybertruck and Cybercab. These include full-width front and rear light bars, with the latter using an indirect lighting system, low-mounted headlights, and a redesigned rear diffuser that integrates the number plate recess. The model is also available with redesigned 19- and 20-inch wheels and a new Glacier Blue exterior colour.
Inside, the Model Y features updates from the facelifted Model 3, including a larger 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, customisable ambient lighting, ventilated seats, and an eight-inch rear touchscreen mounted on the back of the centre console. The indicator stalk remains unchanged.
Additional modifications include double-glazed acoustic glass on all windows (compared to front windows only in the 2024 model) and a UV-reflective silver coating for the panoramic glass roof. The rear seats now have an electrically powered recline function, allowing them to be adjusted using buttons in the boot. A new front-facing camera improves visibility when parking, but a full 360-degree camera system is still unavailable.
Mechanical revisions include adjustments to reduce cabin noise, with new wheel and tyre configurations and revised body castings that consolidate 70 components into a single panel. The redesigned rear diffuser alters aerodynamic balance between the front and rear axles to improve high-speed stability.
Pricing remains unchanged, with the Model Y Juniper priced at MYR 195,450 (US$ 43,800) for the RWD model and MYR 242,450 for the LR AWD variant, an increase of MYR 4,450 compared to the previous model. Deliveries of the Launch Series are scheduled to begin this month.
