Jetour Malaysia has appointed Berjaya Assembly as its local assembly completely knocked down (CKD) partner.
The Johor-based plant, formerly known as Oriental Assemblers, previously assembled vehicles for brands including Chery, Changan, Dongfeng, Honda, and Hyundai, among others.
The first 100 units of the Dashing SUV, which was launched on 10th April, 2025, will be fully imported (CBU), with local assembly scheduled to begin in May, 2025.
The agreement exchange between the two companies was officiated by Jetour Auto Vice President Ke Chuandeng and Berjaya Corporation founder and advisor, as well as major shareholder of Berjaya Assets, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun.
According to Jetour Malaysia's official statement, "The collaboration follows manufacturing principles associated with Industry 4.0, integrating digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics into production processes."
As stated in the presentation slides, Jetour Malaysia is planning investments of MYR 560 million (US$ 124.6 million) in manufacturing, MYR 216 million in research and development (R&D), and MYR 65 million in network development.
The initiative is expected to generate over 3,200 jobs and reach a production localisation rate above 40%.
Jetour Malaysia also intends to export vehicles assembled in Malaysia to markets in ASEAN, Oceania, and the Middle East.
In addition, the company plans to establish Malaysia as its Asia-Pacific (APAC) R&D hub, involving Jetour operations in Indonesia, Thailand, and Australia.
In March, 2025, it was reported that Berjaya Assembly - wholly owned by Berjaya Assets - entered into a MYR 10 million joint venture with HSHP Auto Technology and PG Car Centre (Northern Region) to form Berjaya Autotech. Ownership of the venture is split among Berjaya Assembly (51%), HSHP (39%), and PG Car Centre (10%).
