On 19th September, GAC Aion released the official images of its upcoming Aion RT all-electric saloon, internally code AY3. Pre-sales are expected to begin on 26th September in China.
The Aion RT adopts a low-drag fastback shape, featuring a closed front grille matched with sharp LED headlights. The design is complemented by black side mirrors, black window trims, hidden door handles, and a 3.48-metre-long panoramic sunroof.
The Aion RT measures 4,865/1,875/1,520 mm, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. The car runs on 215/55 R17 and 235/45 R18 tyres, with eye-catching rim designs.
The rear design is understated, featuring flat taillights with the ''Aion'' logo in the centre and the 'RT'' badge under the right taillight. The paint is said to be corrosion- and scratch-resistant, according to GAC Aion.
For intelligent driving, the Aion RT is equipped with a 126-line LiDAR and 27 automotive-grade sensors, powered by the NVIDIA Orin-X platform. GAC Aion claims the Aion RT can cover 254 driving scenarios without the need for high-precision maps, handling complex road conditions such as roundabouts and roadworks. The intelligent driving software can also be updated via OTA (over-the-air).
The model declared by the Chinese MIIT features an electric motor (model TZ180XYXOF51) with two maximum power options: 150 kW (204 PS) and 165 kW (224 PS). The lithium iron phosphate battery pack, supplied by CATL, offers an official cruising range of 650 km. The fast-charging time from 30% to 80% is 30 minutes, which can be reduced to 18 minutes using the car's 400 V silicon carbide technology.
Inside, the cockpit features a minimalistic beige and black colour scheme. It includes a round steering wheel, deviating from the popular D-shaped design seen in Chinese new energy vehicles. Additional interior features include an LCD instrument panel, a floating central control screen, air-conditioning outlets below the central screen, wireless charging panels, and cup holders on the centre console.
The rear row offers air-conditioning outlets and a central armrest that can be folded inward.
