Bajaj Auto is set to expand its Triumph brand's presence in the burgeoning mid-size motorcycle segment in India.
The company, which has a global partnership with British motorcycle brand Triumph, recently launched two new 400-cc models: the Speed T4 and Speed 400, priced at Rs. 217,000 and Rs. 240,000 (US$ 2,600 and US$ 2,870) respectively (ex-showroom Delhi).
By the end of 2024, Bajaj aims to increase its Triumph sales network to around 170 outlets, with plans to exceed 200 dealerships in 2025. The focus will be on expanding into smaller cities and towns, as well as larger suburbs of metro areas.
The company expects rapid growth in network coverage over the next 18 to 24 months.
Triumph is currently present in over 75 cities with more than 120 dealerships.
Bajaj plans to introduce additional models within the next year to enhance its line-up. This move is in response to dealer investments and the creation of exclusive showrooms based on global standards.
Triumph competes in the modern classics segment, which has seen significant growth, achieving a 30% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the last three years. This segment, accounting for about 11% of the total motorcycle industry, is growing at twice the rate of the overall market.
Triumph has become the second-largest player in the classic segment, surpassing many competitors who have been established for several years.
The expansion and new model introductions are part of Bajaj's strategy to consolidate and enhance its position in this rapidly growing motorcycle segment.
