Dunlop is entering a new phase in Malaysia under new management by Toyotsu Binter Malaysia, which outlined the brand's revised direction at the Malaysia Autoshow 2026.
This development reflects Dunlop's presence in Malaysia, supported by nationwide accessibility and partnerships with distributors and retailers. It also coincides with the introduction of new product lines aligned with both conventional and electric vehicle (EV) segments.
Established in Malaysia since the 1960s, Dunlop continues to operate in the market. Its current direction is supported through collaboration between Toyotsu Binter and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, alongside cooperation with Sumitomo Rubber Industries.
As part of this strategy, Dunlop introduced the Blue Response TG, a passenger car tyre designed to address driving comfort, handling stability, rolling resistance, and cabin noise levels, including requirements associated with EV applications.
According to Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia, the transition reflects the company's plans for its operations in the Malaysian market.
Toyotsu Binter Malaysia currently collaborates with more than 190 authorised Dunlop wholesalers, trading partners, and distributors nationwide, particularly across Peninsular Malaysia, with plans for expansion over the next two years. The company is also evaluating the introduction of a Dunlop specialist retail concept as part of its network development.
In addition to distribution, the company operates in both the replacement and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) segments, including supply programmes for automakers such as Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda, and Leapmotor. This includes fitment on models such as the all-electric Toyota bZ4X.
Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Industries ASEAN, stated that Dunlop's engineering capabilities support OEM partnerships.
With EVs accounting for approximately one in every 14 new vehicle registrations in Malaysia, and government targets set at 15% EV adoption by 2030, Dunlop is expanding its EV-focused tyre range. These products are designed to address EV-specific characteristics, including higher vehicle weight, immediate torque delivery, and reduced cabin noise.
Current EV-compatible models include the Sport Maxx Lux, Blue Response TG, SP Sport Maxx 060+, and e.Sport Maxx. The planned introduction of the e.Sport Maxx in Malaysia is expected to add to Dunlop's EV-oriented portfolio, with a focus on rolling efficiency, wet and dry performance, and reduced cabin noise through Silent Core technology.
Dunlop's presence at the Malaysia Autoshow 2026 reflects its activities in the performance tyre segment in the Malaysian market.
