The factory, with a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, assembling Omoda and Jaecoo models.
Chery Group confirmed that Vietnam, along with Malaysia, will be one of two destinations for building a global factory chain.
Chery's car assembly plant in Vietnam, in partnership with Geleximco, will be located in Thai Binh province, with construction expected to begin in 2025.
This manufacturing plant has been granted a construction permit in Hung Phu Industrial Park, Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province, and is expected to commence construction in 2025, focusing on Omoda and Jaecoo products.
With this production facility, it can be said that Chery is positioning Vietnam as the main car manufacturing centre of Southeast Asia.
Factories in Vietnam and Malaysia will be part of Chery's global factory network, which includes numerous production facilities in China, as well as in Brazil, Latin America, and Turkey.
Domestically, the welding area at the Chery factory in Qingdao (China) boasts a 99.6% automation rate and real-time quality monitoring technology.
Chery's Vu Ho new energy plant features a battery assembly line to ensure the safety of the car's electrical system. Factories in Kaifeng, Henan, Yantai, and Sichuan are also part of Chery's production network to guarantee production capacity and strengthen product supply.
Earlier in April, Chery and the Geleximco Group announced they had signed a joint venture agreement, which includes plans to build a factory with a total investment of over 800 million USD.
The factory, with an expected capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year, will complete its first phase by the first quarter of 2026.
Before this factory becomes operational, Omoda and Jaecoo cars will be imported into Vietnam.
In Vietnam, the Omoda C5 and Jaecoo J7 PHEV will be Chery's first models, expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Omoda C5, positioned in the B-segment SUV class, is equipped with a 1.5-litre Turbo engine producing 147 PS and a maximum torque of 210 Nm.
The Jaecoo J7 PHEV belongs to the C-segment SUV class. It utilises a combination of an electric motor and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering a maximum output of 352 PS and 525 Nm of torque.
Chery was one of the first Chinese brands to research the Vietnamese market, but has been cautious, frequently delaying its car launch schedule, putting it behind several of its domestic competitors.
