VinFast ships largest EV batch to country, eyes market expansion in 2025
Vietnam Investment Review, 11 Mar '25
VinFast has shipped its largest batch of electric vehicles (EVs) to Indonesia as part of its strategy to establish the country as one of its key markets in Southeast Asia.
Departing from Mipec Port in Haiphong on 8th March, the shipment of vehicles is expected to arrive in Jakarta on 11th or 12th March, depending on weather conditions.
The batch includes four right-hand drive models the VF3, VF5, VFe34, and Nerio Green designed specifically for the Indonesian market. This shipment is anticipated to be a significant offering for customers ahead of the Muslim Lebaran holiday.
Duong Thi Thu Trang, deputy general director of VinFast Global Sales, stated, "2025 will be a crucial year for VinFast in Indonesia as we are expediting the construction of our manufacturing plant to begin assembling EVs locally."
"With support from our entire ecosystem and a diverse, smart, and modern product line-up, we are aiming for a significant breakthrough in sales this year," Trang further added.
VinFast's latest model, the VF3, made a strong impression at the 10-day Indonesia International Motor Show in February, emerging as the most test-driven vehicle of the event, indicating strong local consumer interest.
To enhance accessibility to EVs, VinFast is offering several incentives, including free charging at V-Green-operated stations until 2028, cashback offers, gifts for early adopters, and a buyback guarantee of up to 90% of the vehicle's value.
V-Green is also accelerating the expansion of charging infrastructure in major cities to support Indonesia's growing demand for EVs. In late January, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan-based green energy firm eTreego to expand VinFast's charging network.
The two companies plan to deploy 100,000 charging ports across VinFast's three key regional markets Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnamdemonstrating their commitment to establishing a comprehensive EV ecosystem to facilitate the region's transition to sustainable mobility.
In the second quarter of 2025, eTreego will install 200 pilot charging ports in Vietnam before expanding to the other two key markets.
Additionally, the Taiwanese company will supply charging equipment to V-Green, assist with site leasing, and collaborate with potential partners in the region.
Le Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of Vingroup, the parent company of VinFast, stated, "Expanding into Southeast Asia is a key part of our global strategy. We aim to provide ASEAN countries with smart and safe mobility solutions, accompanied by exceptional user experiences, driving a greener future for all."
In December 2023, Xanh SM, an EV ride-hailing service operating exclusively with VinFast EVs, was launched in Indonesia and is now undergoing rapid expansion.
