Fresh teaser images and a series of leaked exterior and interior details have intensified speculation that VinFast is preparing to unveil a new electric SUV in Vietnam on May 20th, with dimensions comparable to the VF8.
The official VinFast fan page posted a teaser image of the new model alongside a confirmed launch date of May 20th.
Although the image is partially concealed in darkness, the visible daytime running light design has suggested a connection with the SUV that has repeatedly been spotted during road testing in recent days. The vehicle had previously been seen undergoing testing near the factory area and on public roads without camouflage.
Real-world images showing the new model parked alongside the VinFast VF8 also revealed similarities in overall dimensions.
Some earlier leaked images also showed the vehicle carrying a VF8 badge on the tailgate, leading to speculation that it could be a next-generation version of the VF8 or a new model intended to replace the current VF8 in the market.
According to images of the SUV undergoing road tests, details such as the side mirror covers and wheel design share similarities with the VinFast VF MPV 7, leading to speculation that the chassis structure and technical platform may be shared between the two model lines.
In terms of exterior styling, the vehicle features a wing-shaped daytime running light design with a non-continuous layout compared with some other VinFast SUVs. At the rear, the SUV features an LED tail-light strip extending across the tailgate. Flush door handles integrated into the bodywork are also present, using an opening mechanism similar to those found on newer BMW models.
The cabin is also expected to introduce changes compared with other VinFast vehicles. Leaked interior images reveal a redesigned cockpit compared with the current VinFast VF8, including a steering wheel paired with gear selector stalks mounted on the steering column, similar to the layout used by BMW.
Although the vehicle retains a large central touchscreen for infotainment and vehicle controls, the driver also receives a smaller digital display positioned directly behind the steering wheel to provide driving information.
Detailed technical specifications for the new SUV have not yet been disclosed. However, the transition to a new chassis platform, with technology shared and inherited from the company's newer-generation products, has led to expectations of changes to both battery and electric motor systems.
