UNEX EV introduced its comprehensive battery-swapping ecosystem in Thailand on Friday, marking a step towards advancing smart and environmentally sustainable mobility in the Southeast Asian nation.
Pitak Pruitthisarikorn, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of UNEX EV, stated at the launch event that the company's battery-swapping platform is designed to accommodate various types of electric vehicles (EVs), including private, commercial, and public transport, whether utilised on land, in water, or in the air.
Recognising that extended charging times, range anxiety, and battery degradation are significant barriers to EV adoption, Mr Pitak explained that the battery-swapping system reduces vehicle downtime to approximately three minutes, thereby enabling drivers to resume their journeys with minimal delay.
He further noted that this system alleviates pressure on the national electricity grid and facilitates network expansion without necessitating costly infrastructure upgrades.
Powered by advanced battery-swapping technology from U Power Limited, a Chinese vehicle-sourcing service provider, the system includes real-time monitoring tools that track battery health and energy usage. These features are intended to provide both operational and financial efficiencies for commercial fleet operators.
According to UNEX EV, the company has entered into agreements with key partners to expand its battery-swapping network. These include a collaboration with petrol station operator Susco to establish battery-swapping points nationwide, as well as a partnership with Chinese automaker SAIC's MG brand to introduce compatible EV models.
UNEX EV also announced plans to install over 1,000 battery-swapping stations across Thailand. The first of these stations is expected to become operational in May on the resort island of Phuket, a location selected due to its high concentration of public transport vehicles.
