Suzuki Motor has introduced the Pakistan-built Alto and Every in Brunei, adding two small cars to its line-up in the Southeast Asian market.

Both models have body dimensions and 660cc engine displacement traditionally associated with Japan's kei-class vehicles. The automaker announced the launch on August 28th, following a ceremony held on August 27th at the Airport Mall Atrium in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The launch was organised by Boustead, Suzuki's distributor in Brunei, and also marked the 50th anniversary of its appointment as the brand's distributor in the country. The event was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Yutaka Kikuta, Suzuki executives, Boustead representatives and business partners, with around 120 people participating.

The Alto and Every are manufactured by Pak Suzuki Motor Company, the company's Pakistani subsidiary, and exported from Pakistan to Brunei. Both models are powered by 660cc engines and have compact body dimensions similar to vehicles that meet Japan's kei-car standards. However, Brunei does not have a vehicle classification equivalent to Japan's kei-car standard.

According to Suzuki, this is the first time it has exported models manufactured at an overseas production facility that match the body-size and engine-displacement specifications of Japanese mini-vehicles. It is also the first time Suzuki has exported kei-sized models produced outside Japan.

The addition of the Alto and Every brings Suzuki's Brunei line-up to include the Jimny in three- and five-door configurations, the Ertiga, the Fronx, the Alto and the Every. Boustead said Suzuki currently has a 9.5% share of the Brunei vehicle market.

Brunei has a high level of vehicle ownership per capita and the country's per capita gross domestic product is the second-highest among ASEAN countries after Singapore. Cars are widely used for daily transportation, including commuting to workplaces and educational institutions. Suzuki said the Alto and Every are intended for use in the Brunei market.

The launch also adds Pakistan-produced vehicles to Suzuki's international supply chain. Pak Suzuki's production facilities are manufacturing vehicles based on the compact dimensions and engine capacity traditionally associated with Japan's domestic kei-car segment for export to Brunei.

Suzuki plans to export a kei-sized electric vehicle to Europe as early as 2027, with production expected to take place in Japan.

Boustead has also announced plans to introduce Suzuki motorcycles in Brunei. Motorcycle sales are expected to begin around autumn 2026, with the planned range including large-displacement models such as the Hayabusa, GSX-S1000GX and GSX-8R, primarily targeting touring and leisure riders.
