GWM Malaysia has brought three vehicles to the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2026, with two planned for local assembly.

GWM Malaysia has indicated the second half of 2026 for the ORA 5 HEV, with the Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV scheduled to follow in early 2027. Neither model has a confirmed launch date or price.

The show runs from August 26th to 28th at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur and is organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii). GATE is a trade and industry event, with suppliers, government agencies and technology partners among its participants.

The only GWM model on the stand already assembled in Malaysia is the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV. The luxury MPV went on sale in Malaysia in January at MYR 269,800 (US$ 67,000) on the road without insurance and is assembled at EP Manufacturing's plant in Pegoh, Melaka.

GWM has also been exporting the Malaysian-built G9 to Thailand. GWM describes the G9 as the No. 1-selling luxury MPV among officially distributed OEM brands in Malaysia, excluding recon and grey imports, where a significant proportion of Alphard and Vellfire sales are recorded.

The two upcoming models were previewed at KLIMS in June and are now planned for local assembly. The ORA 5 HEV is the smaller model and will be the first hybrid to carry the ORA badge in Malaysia. It uses GWM's Hi2 system, comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission and an electric motor, producing a combined 223 PS and 476 Nm.

GWM quotes a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.7 seconds, fuel consumption of 4.4 litres per 100 km and a range of more than 1,100 km from a full tank, supported by a 1.09 kWh battery.

The ORA 5 HEV measures 4,471 mm in length, 1,833 mm in width and 1,641 mm in height, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. It is positioned in the same segment as models including the Chery Tiggo Cross HEV and Honda HR-V e:HEV. Full Malaysian specifications and pricing have not been announced.

The Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width and 1,843 mm in height, with a 2,738 mm wheelbase. It uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 150 PS and 230 Nm, combined with two electric motors producing 109 PS and 170 Nm at the front and 204 PS and 350 Nm at the rear. The system produces a combined 370 PS and 750 Nm through a two-speed DHT.

A 27.54 kWh LFP battery provides electric driving capability, while GWM states that the combined range exceeds 1,000 km. The H7 is larger than the Tank 300, which GWM already sells in Malaysia.

The H7 displayed at GATE is understood to be the same left-hand-drive preview unit shown at KLIMS and therefore does not represent the interior specification of a future CKD Malaysian model. GWM Malaysia has previously indicated that the ORA 5 HEV is expected in the second half of 2026, followed by the H7 Hi4 PHEV in early 2027. Prices for both models have yet to be announced.

Alongside the vehicles, GWM is displaying its Hi2 and Hi4 hybrid systems and hydrogen technology developed by FTXT, another company under the GWM Group. No hydrogen product or deployment has been announced for Malaysia, and GWM is presenting the technology as an awareness and dialogue initiative rather than a product roadmap.

GWM Malaysia delivered 3,166 vehicles during the first half of 2026, representing a 42.4% year-on-year increase and placing the company among Malaysia's top 11 automotive brands. The Haval H6 HEV and WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV accounted for most of the volume.

The ORA 5 HEV and Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV are planned for local assembly, with their Malaysian specifications, launch dates and prices yet to be announced. The WEY G9 is currently assembled locally and exported to Thailand.
