Stellantis and Indomobil are preparing to introduce Leapmotor to Indonesia.
The presence of the electric vehicle manufacturer is expected to provide customers in the country with a wider range of choices. The vehicles are planned to be introduced through the Stellantis Brand House network, which presents several brands simultaneously at a single location.
"Through this collaboration, the aim is to expand the brand portfolio in Indonesia while providing a wider selection of globally recognised electrified vehicles," said Tan Kim Piauw, Chief Executive Officer of Indomobil National Distributor.
He also stated that the decision to introduce Leapmotor in Indonesia was based on internal considerations. According to him, the brand is expected to address the driving needs of the public.
"Leapmotor combines electric vehicle technology with an engineering-focused development approach, creating a mobility option for consumers in Indonesia," he said.
Unlike the typical approach adopted in the automotive industry, Leapmotor developed its capabilities from the ground up rather than relying on components previously launched by other automakers.
The company stated that its vehicles are supported by in-house research and development and engineering.
It further added that around 60% of the components used are independently developed.
Through this partnership, Indomobil National Distributor stated that it plans to introduce additional global automotive brands to Indonesia. The company also said it intends to develop Leapmotor in the market using its existing distribution network.
The initiative also includes the development of a retail network through showrooms built under the Stellantis Brand House concept, where several Stellantis brands are presented at a single location.
"We believe this partnership with Stellantis will strengthen the global automotive brand's presence in Indonesia. Moving forward, relevant products and technologies will continue to be delivered to meet industry developments and the mobility needs of Indonesian consumers," concluded Tan Kim Piauw.
However, at the time this report was prepared, no timeline had been disclosed regarding Leapmotor's official debut in Indonesia.
