Jagdamba Motors, the authorised distributor of Proton vehicles in Nepal, has launched the e.MAS 5 electric SUV, marking the Malaysian automaker's second electric vehicle in the local market.

Unveiled at a ceremony in Kathmandu, the compact electric SUV is available in two variants - Prime and Premium - with introductory prices of NPR 2.9 million and NPR 3.5 million (US$ 19,400-22,600), respectively.

The offer is valid for the first 100 customers. The e.MAS 5 is equipped with a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, along with a 70-litre front trunk and a 375-litre rear luggage compartment.

Speaking at the launch, Akhil Gupta, Executive Director of Jagdamba Motors, said the new model reflects the company's commitment to expanding electric mobility options in Nepal. He added that the vehicle includes technology, practicality and features intended for urban consumers.

The launch event was attended by representatives of the Malaysian Embassy in the country, business partners, stakeholders from the automotive industry and media representatives.

According to the company, the e.MAS 5 recently received the 'Electric Compact Vehicle of the Year 2026' award at Malaysia's Allianz DSF Vehicle of the Year Awards. Li Zhidan, Deputy Director of Proton International, said Nepal is an important market in the company's international expansion strategy and expressed confidence that the e.MAS brand would strengthen its presence in the country's growing EV sector.

The company said bookings for the new electric SUV have opened at Proton showrooms across the country.
