The latest update from Taiwan's Insurance Development Center (IDC) has revealed a reference value for the upcoming Honda ZR-V e, which is scheduled to be launched in Taiwan during the third quarter.
However, the listed replacement value of NTD 2 million has prompted questions over whether it is a clerical error or an indication of the model's actual pricing. Honda Taiwan confirmed during its spring media event in March that the ZR-V e would arrive in the third quarter.
Since then, the model has received approval from the Ministry of Environment, the Energy Administration and the Vehicle Safety Certification Centre, indicating that its official launch is approaching.
Most recently, the Insurance Development Center updated its vehicle database, where the ZR-V e appeared with a replacement value of NTD 2 million (US$ 62,300).
Although insurance replacement values are typically set slightly higher than a vehicle's official retail price, the figure is above prevailing market expectations and has generated discussion. According to publicly available data from the Energy Administration, the only version currently registered is the Honda ZR-V 2.0 e, corresponding to the sole variant previously submitted for government certification.
The hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 141 PS with an electric motor delivering 184 PS, paired with a lithium-ion battery pack. Official testing recorded an average fuel economy of 20.4km/litre, earning the model a Level 1 energy-efficiency rating.
Built on the same platform as the 11th-generation Civic, the ZR-V measures 4,570 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,655 mm. It is positioned between the HR-V and CR-V in Honda's SUV line-up.
Given its positioning, the NTD 2 million replacement value may not reflect the ZR-V's actual retail price. Estimates place the ZR-V e at approximately NTD 50,000 to NTD 100,000 above the imported Civic e, which is currently priced at NTD 1.279 million.
This would place the ZR-V e in the NTD 1.33 million to NTD 1.38 million range, while allowing it to benefit from the tax advantage available to passenger vehicles equipped with engines below 2.0 litres. The model would also be positioned in the market alongside the CR-V e, which starts at NTD 1.299 million.
