BAW (Beijing Automobile Works), represented by Kingfu Automotive, has officially entered the Hong Kong market.
The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive BAW M8 is equipped with an 81kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, producing 231 PS and 310 Nm of torque, with a CLTC driving range of 505km. The Hong Kong version is available in two variants: Standard Luxury and Premium. Early-bird pre-sale prices are HKD 389,900 and HKD 429,900 (US$ 49,720-54,820), respectively, representing reductions of HKD 30,000 and HKD 20,000 from the original prices. The first batch of vehicles is expected to be delivered by the end of September.
Founded in 1951, BAW is one of China's automotive manufacturers. The company develops off-road vehicles, light passenger vehicles, trucks and new energy vehicles.
The first BAW model to be sold in Hong Kong is the all-electric seven-seater M8 MPV. According to the company, the vehicle has been developed to serve both commercial and private mobility requirements. It features a high-strength cage-type body and measures 5,317mm in length, 1,870mm in width and 1,955mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,200mm.
Its exterior design includes a large electroplated grille, automatic LED headlamps and vertical daytime running lights. At the rear, a full-width LED light bar incorporates illuminated BAW lettering at the centre. Both variants are equipped as standard with dual power sliding doors and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The seven-seat interior adopts a 2+2+3 seating configuration, with two independent seats in the second row. The third-row seats provide 610mm of legroom, while the luggage compartment offers a depth of 1,160mm. These dimensions are intended to accommodate a variety of passenger and cargo requirements. The cabin features faux leather upholstery throughout. Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control for the front and rear, 50W wireless smartphone charging, multiple USB-C and USB-A ports across all three rows, and an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold.
The Premium variant adds ventilated, heated, massaging and welcome-function seats for the front and second rows. The second-row seats also feature electrically operated leg rests and a one-touch comfort mode.
Both variants share the same powertrain, consisting of an 81kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 231 PS and 310 Nm of torque. The M8 has a top speed of 150km/h and a CLTC driving range of 505km. Driving modes include Eco, Standard and Sport, while regenerative braking offers three selectable settings: Off, Weak and Strong.
The suspension system comprises MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. Both variants also feature a vehicle-to-load (V2L) external power supply function.
