The Hinduja Group has announced a fresh investment of Rs. 25 billion (US$ 262 million) in Tamil Nadu covering electric mobility, renewable energy, automotive operations, battery charging infrastructure, digital mobility solutions, financial services and other emerging opportunities.
The 111-year-old conglomerate signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu, under the Investment Promotion and Commerce Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu, to advance the investment. The agreement was signed by Ashok Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India), and Amit Saharia, Group President - Strategy, with Deepak Jacob, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guidance Industries, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Under the MoU, the group's e-mobility arm, OHM Global Mobility, will operationalise electric buses for public transport across Tamil Nadu. The investment will also cover battery charging networks, digital mobility services, automotive engineering and financial services.
The Group will seek land and connectivity support in identified catchment areas, including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore, for the planned projects.
Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL) plans to develop more than 200 MW of renewable energy projects involving solar, wind and battery storage technologies across Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore. The projects will support the Group's clean mobility operations.
"Our Rs. 25 billion commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth. With its strong industrial base, talent and renewable energy potential, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to lead India's energy and mobility transition. We look forward to building on our long-standing association with the state and working with the Government of Tamil Nadu to create lasting value through investments in clean energy, electric mobility and other emerging opportunities," said Ashok Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group of Companies (India).
The latest commitment builds on the Hinduja Group UK's Rs. 75 billion MoU signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu in September 2025 for investments in the state's electric vehicle ecosystem. The agreement covers battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure.
The new investment adds to the Group's existing automotive and mobility operations in Tamil Nadu, which include commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland, electric bus manufacturer Switch Mobility and engineering services company Hinduja Tech.
In March 2026, Ashok Leyland broke ground on a Rs. 5 billion greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai. The facility will form part of the Group's investments in batteries, electric mobility and clean energy in Tamil Nadu.
