Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) Sun Chanthol has urged Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD to expand its investment in Cambodia across areas including local EV assembly, fast-charging infrastructure, technology transfer and human-resource development.

The call was made on September 12th, when Chanthol led a Royal Government delegation, accompanied by representatives from the private sector, to visit BYD's headquarters in Shenzhen, China, according to a social media post published by Chanthol on September 13th.

Chanthol and the delegation met BYD Chairman and CEO Wang Chuanfu and the company's senior management.

According to Chanthol, the visit was aimed at learning about BYD's EV technology and supporting infrastructure, particularly its Flash Charging Flagship Station technology, which can reduce charging times to around 10 minutes.

"Cambodia is proudly the first country outside China to receive the right to adopt and officially install this ultra-fast EV charging station technology," he said.

Chanthol called on BYD to consider increasing the production capacity of its EV assembly plant in Cambodia to serve both domestic and export markets. He also urged the company to invest in a nationwide network of fast-charging stations and transfer technological knowledge to support the development of local human resources.

In response, Wang acknowledged the Cambodian delegation's visit to the company's headquarters and referred to Cambodia's development and government policies supporting investment. He also said BYD is willing to expand its investment in Cambodia in the future.
