The Balochistan government has approved the acquisition of nine green buses. This decision was included in the current financial year's budget, as stated by the Secretary of Transport, Hayatullah Kakar.
A summary of the purchase was submitted to chief minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who has now approved it. The transport department will soon issue a tender for the procurement.
Of the nine buses, five will be introduced in Quetta on new routes, adding to the ten green buses already operating. The remaining four buses will be deployed in Turbat.
Recently, the Punjab Revenue Department allocated PKR 4.3 billion (US$ 15.5 million) from the 2024-2025 provincial budget as a subsidy for the Metro Bus and Orange Line Train services. This allocation ensures that passengers will continue to enjoy discounted fares on both public transportation services.
In addition to covering the subsidy, the allocation will be used to pay the salaries of employees working for the Metro Bus Service and Orange Line Train.
In a separate development, the Punjab Finance Department has designated PKR 35 billion for the police department. These funds are intended to cover operational costs, salary payments, and fuel expenses.
Additionally, PKR 2 billion has been allocated for 552 Primary Health Units (PHUs) to purchase medicines and manage other operational needs. It is important to note that this budget has been issued for three months and is available for public access online.
