Yazaki expands in country with new Chennai plant

Japanese automotive components manufacturer Yazaki is expanding its presence in India with the establishment of a new plant in Chennai.
The global auto parts company, with annual revenues of US$ 17 billion and operations in 46 countries, has increased its footprint in India to nearly one million square feet, spanning the National Capital Region (NCR), Hosur, and now Chennai.
"This has been done in collaboration with Horizon Industrial Parks, Blackstone's logistics platform in India," stated the company.
Yazaki currently operates 12 manufacturing facilities in India, supplying wire harnesses to the majority of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the country. The new facility marks Yazaki's third partnership with Horizon Industrial Parks.
The plant is a built-to-suit manufacturing unit covering 316,000 square feet and will be located in Horizon's Chengalpet Industrial Park, a rapidly growing industrial hub in Chennai.
The facility, designed for rooftop solar power integration, will employ more than 2,000 workers.
"With the new peripheral ring road connecting to Chennai Port, Chengalpet is rapidly emerging as a key manufacturing hub. Several major companies operate in the region, including leading firms in the information technology, semiconductor, electronics, and automotive industries. Furthermore, the establishment of a new Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) industrial estate in Kodur Village, announced in 2021, is expected to further drive industrial growth in the area," said Urvish Rambhia, Director at Horizon Industrial Parks.
Yazaki also operates two additional facilities in collaboration with Horizon: a 260,000-square-foot plug-and-play facility at Horizon Industrial Park Hosur, which was established in 2023, and a similar-sized plant in NCR at Farukhnagar.
Both parks are recognised as benchmarks in sustainability and have received platinum ratings from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
P. V. Raju, CEO of Yazaki India, commented, "After evaluating several industrial developers, we selected Horizon as our partner. They supported us in meeting our commitment to timely delivery by handing over the Hosur facility within six months. Like Yazaki, Horizon prioritises quality infrastructure and provides a dust-free environment, which is essential for manufacturing high-quality products. We are also assured of the safety of our approximately 4,200 employees working in Horizon's Hosur and Farukhnagar parks."
