Toyota Motor Philippines' (TMP) decision to produce the Tamaraw locally has resulted in additional business for parts suppliers, vehicle converters and other companies involved in the automotive industry.
The Tamaraw completed its first full year in the market in 2025, accounting for a 36% share of the pure commercial vehicle category.
It also recorded the highest sales in the light commercial vehicle segment, according to Toyota's 2026 Sustainability Report. The PHP 5.5 billion (US$ 87.7 million) investment in vehicle production, parts localisation and conversion capabilities has involved local vehicle designers, engineers, parts suppliers, external body builders and niche conversion businesses. The addition of another completely knocked-down (CKD) model to TMP's line-up has also contributed to employment and localisation across the automotive value chain.
"The Tamaraw is one of our major means in creating and adding new value for both our internal and external stakeholders, from the upstream to downstream. As we further navigate a dynamic automotive landscape, our long-term goal is to strengthen our role as a dedicated partner in Philippine nation-building through local manufacturing, innovation, and sustainable mobility," Masando Hashimoto, president of TMP, said.
In 2025, TMP recorded its highest-ever CKD production volume, with production comprising the CKD Vios, Innova and Tamaraw.
The company's cumulative vehicle production exceeded 1.18 million units by the end of 2025, while local procurement from domestic suppliers totalled PHP 17 billion during the year. TMP distributed PHP 283.83 billion in economic value in 2025, including PHP 43.13 billion in taxes and duties remitted through its local operations.
TMP's network of Toyota Group export suppliers generated around USD 1 billion in export sales of automotive parts in 2025. This represented 27% of the country's total automotive parts exports.
The Tamaraw was initially launched in three body styles and has since been expanded to six configurations through TMP's in-house conversion capability. The additional configurations include an ambulance, telco van and race vehicle.
In 2025, TMP expanded its electrified vehicle (xEV) line-up with the introduction of the Toyota ATIV hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and Toyota bZ4X, the first Toyota battery electric vehicle (BEV) model in the Philippine market. The company recorded a 39% increase in xEV sales compared with 2024.
TMP maintained a 100% renewable electricity ratio for its manufacturing operations. This eliminated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with purchased electricity at its Santa Rosa plant.
