It's official: the road has come to an end for the iconic ''Carry Dabba'' Suzuki Bolan in Pakistan. After several years of speculation, it is now confirmed that there will be no new Bolan on the roads.
The news began circulating on social media after a photo of the incomplete vehicle emerged, showing a poster that read: ''Bye Bye Y88V Bolan, End of Production, Last Chassis Number 01151691.'' A company official confirmed the news to the press, stating: ''Yes, it was the last batch.''
The Suzuki Bolan will soon be replaced by the new Suzuki Every. It has been a long wait for Pakistani consumers, as the vehicle was clearly outdated, lacking in both features and safety standards. Many continued to buy it due to a lack of alternatives until the arrival of the Changan Karvaan. The Suzuki Bolan was frequently criticised for its dated design, lack of comfort, and the safety risks it posed on the road. Consumers had long been calling for a replacement, and it appears that Suzuki has finally listened.
In 2021, there were expectations that the company would discontinue the Bolan after a Lahore High Court verdict, which ordered the Engineering Development Board the regulatory body for the auto industry to ensure that all vehicles assembled in Pakistan included airbags. However, at the time, the company denied these rumours. Then, in 2022, Suzuki briefly introduced an air-conditioned variant of the Bolan, but it was discontinued within the same year.
Now the question is, which vehicle will replace the legendary Bolan, or ''Carry Dabba''? The answer is simple: as mentioned earlier, the Suzuki Every. The company revealed the new Every for the local market at the last auto show in Lahore, but its launch was delayed due to various issues, including a ban on Letters of Credit (LCs) and the subsequent halting of CKD kit imports. However, it has now been confirmed that Suzuki will launch the new Every in the second week of October 2024, marking the end of the road for the Bolan and the beginning of a new chapter for the Every.
