Proton has formalised four new joint ventures (JVs) and two technical agreements (TAs) involving its local vendors and suppliers from Geely.
The initiative aims to expand parts localisation and improve vendor capabilities.
In the area of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Delloyd Technology, a Proton supplier, has entered into a joint venture with Imotion Automotive Technology (Suzhou), a company that supplies components to Geely, Zeekr, Chery, and Volvo in China.
According to Proton, Imotion will support the development and deployment of ADAS systems for the AMA01 platform. This confirms that the upcoming Saga MC3 will include ADAS features.
For braking systems, PEPS JV (M) has signed an agreement with Liuzhou Sanly Autoparts. PEPS JV will be responsible for local production in Malaysia, while Liuzhou Sanly will conduct modular assembly of the components. These systems are intended for the new Saga, X50, X70, and X90 models.
In the automotive lighting sector, JHM Consolidation has entered into a joint venture with Jiangsu Dekai Auto Parts. For heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, Trillion Speed (M) has partnered with Shanghai Yinlun Heat Exchange Systems.
The two technical agreements include one between SHJ Interia and Changchun Fawsn Automotive Trim, focused on interior components such as headlining. The second is between Xenso Electronics and Freetech Intelligent Systems, concerning ADAS functionalities including blind spot monitoring and lane change assist.
"Localising the development and production of high-technology components is necessary to achieve cost benefits and support the skill development of Proton's R&D personnel and vendors," said Wang Huaibing, Chief Procurement Officer at Proton.
