Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor India has started exporting its latest SUV, the Tekton, which will be sold in South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal.

Nissan began exporting the Tekton on September 1st, 2026. The company said the initial shipments represent the first phase of the SUV's international rollout, with plans to expand exports to additional destinations as production increases.

The Tekton is the sister model to the Renault Duster and was recently introduced in the Indian market.

Meanwhile, Nissan Motor India's domestic dispatches increased 147% year on year (YoY) in August 2026. According to the company, the increase was driven by the rollout of the Tekton in the domestic market, alongside sustained volumes for its existing SUV portfolio.

However, international export dispatches across all models declined 23.7% YoY in August 2026. The decline in exports offset much of the increase in domestic wholesales, resulting in total dispatches rising marginally by 2.2% YoY.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, said, "The response to the Tekton has been encouraging and has contributed to a strong domestic wholesale performance in August."

Nissan said the initial Tekton shipments to South Africa, Nepal and Bhutan mark the first stage of its international rollout. The company plans to add more export destinations as production of the SUV increases.
