Mercedes discontinues A-Class sedan, EQA, EQB, EQE SUV in India
Autocar India, 14 Apr '26
Mercedes-Benz has discontinued the A-Class Limousine, EQA, and EQB from its India website ahead of the launch of the CLA EV.
The move aligns with a previously reported development, with the company shifting its focus towards higher-end models in its portfolio. The luxury carmaker has also delisted the electric EQE SUV.
An official statement from the company said, "We have completely sold out the existing stock of these models in India. Customers looking for the latest generation BEV can explore the new CLA, which is the most 'intelligent Mercedes-Benz ever' and has set a new benchmark in luxury BEVs, debuting on 24th April."
Mercedes to focus on the higher end of the luxury segment
In 2025, Mercedes reported a 23% decline in the entry-level segment. The brand has opted not to compete in this space or engage in a price-led competition in a segment already under pressure on margins. "Can we match our rivals selling at a lower price? Maybe not. However, the aim is to focus on our strengths, and value will be prioritised over volume," said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz India, in an earlier media interview.
Entry into the Mercedes-Benz range to become pricier
With an ex-showroom price ranging between Rs. 4.446 million to Rs. 4.592 million (US$ 47,665-49,230), the A-Class was the most affordable entry point into the Mercedes-Benz line-up. With its discontinuation, customers will now have to opt for the GLA SUV, which is the most accessible Mercedes-Benz model currently on sale, priced between Rs. 5.18 million to Rs. 5.5 million. The upcoming CLA EV will consolidate the brand's entry-level EV portfolio into a single model. The carmaker has stated that the CLA EV will have a tentative ex-showroom price of Rs. 5.5 million to Rs. 5.9 million, and it will not be positioned as a low-cost offering.
Mercedes A-Class sedan, EQA, EQB, EQE SUV: a brief look back
The A-Class Limousine was launched in India in March 2021 and was the most affordable Mercedes-Benz model in the market. It received a facelift in 2023 and remained on sale for five years. The EQB was the company's first three-row electric vehicle, introduced in 2022 and facelifted in 2024, and remained on sale for over three years with a final recorded price range of Rs. 7.09 million to Rs. 7.75 million. The EQE SUV was launched in September 2023 as the electric counterpart to the GLE at Rs. 13.9 million and remained on sale for around 2.5 years. With a starting price of Rs. 6.6 million, the EQA served as the electric counterpart to the GLA and was Mercedes-Benz's most affordable electric vehicle. It remained in the market for less than two years.
Second-generation GLB to arrive later
While the ICE-powered GLB was discontinued in April 2025, it is expected to return in a second-generation form. The second-generation GLB was introduced in global markets in both ICE and electric versions; however, India is expected to receive only the ICE-powered version as a full CBU import. A launch timeline has not yet been confirmed.
