Great Wall Motor (GWM) Thailand is increasing car production at its Rayong factory, aiming to position Thailand as a global automotive production hub.
The company plans to expand exports to ASEAN, Australia, and Latin America, and will introduce a series of vehicle models catering to diverse energy solutions.
James Yang, ASEAN Regional President of GWM, stated that the expansion is a key development for both the company and the Thai economy. "As Thailand serves as a production base in the ASEAN region, we are announcing plans for increased exports starting in the second quarter of 2025," Yang said. This expansion reflects GWM's focus on improving production quality and meeting global standards at its Rayong facility.
In May 2025, GWM will begin exporting the ORA Good Cat, a 100% electric vehicle produced in Thailand, to markets in Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand.
This will mark the first global availability of the ORA Good Cat, showcasing Thailand's capabilities in electric vehicle production.
In addition to the ORA Good Cat, GWM plans to export several SUV models, including the Tank 500 HEV to Malaysia and the Tank 300 HEV to Indonesia.
The Haval H6 HEV and Haval Jolion HEV will also be sent to Vietnam, where they have received positive feedback from consumers.
GWM's Rayong factory, with a production capacity of up to 80,000 units per year, is a full-scale manufacturing plant and the second of its kind outside China, following Russia. The factory employs over 1,100 workers, all focused on producing vehicles that meet international standards.
All GWM vehicles sold in Thailand are manufactured locally, except for the ORA 07 model, which is imported from China.
The production process incorporates 45-50% local content, with plans to increase this percentage in the future to enhance efficiency and support local suppliers.
At the recent Motor Show 2025, GWM unveiled the Haval H6, available in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, alongside the Tank 300 Diesel. These models are set to begin deliveries shortly.
James Yang noted the significance of this production increase for both GWM and Thailand's automotive industry. "We aim to contribute to Thailand's economic growth through our range of automotive products. This expansion reflects our focus on quality and sustainable development in the region," he said.
As GWM continues to develop automotive technology and design, the company remains focused on providing vehicles that meet the evolving demands of customers worldwide.
The commitment to enhancing production capabilities and local content benefits GWM and supports Thailand's goal of becoming a global automotive hub.
In summary, GWM's strategic expansion in Thailand is expected to support the country's position in the global automotive market, with an emphasis on electric vehicles and sustainable practices.
As the company prepares for its upcoming exports, it is clear that GWM is focused on driving growth in the automotive sector.
