Bangladesh urges Chinese EV firms to set up manufacturing plant

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, on an official visit to China urged Chinese automobile companies to consider establishing an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Bangladesh.
He made the call while visiting a high-tech electric vehicle manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Shanghai, which produces approximately 500 EV units daily, the foreign ministry said in a press release here.
Later, the foreign adviser also met with Acting Mayor of Shanghai and underlined the need for enhanced business to business and people to people engagements between Dhaka and Shanghai.
The Acting Mayor extended invitation to Bangladesh to participate at the "Shanghai Tourism Festival" to be held in 2025.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain also exchanged views with a delegation from the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce.
During the discussion, they focused on relocation of Chinese manufacturing plants to Bangladesh, particularly to the Chinese Special Economic Zone in Chattogram and establishing air connectivity between Chattogram and Shanghai.
