The first Electric Vehicle (EV) Centre in Asia is scheduled to be established in Pluit, functioning as a marketplace for various EV brands operating in Indonesia.
Pico Indonesia, a company involved in brand activation, has introduced a project intended to support the development of EVs in Indonesia.
The company will manage a dedicated mall for electric vehicles and their related ecosystem. The EV Centre will accommodate a range of battery-powered vehicles, including cars, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and bicycles.
It is expected that brands such as Aion, BYD, Wuling, MG, DFSK, Chery, Electra, Maxus, Seres, Geely, and MAB will participate in the EV Centre.
Other automotive brands already present in Indonesia and offering electric models - such as BMW, Mini Cooper, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Tesla, Porsche, Jaguar, and Citroen, as well as Japanese and Korean manufacturers including Hyundai, KIA, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan - are also expected to be involved.
The EV Centre also plans to include EV dealers, component suppliers, aftermarket businesses, charging station providers, information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI) companies, financial institutions, experience centres, educational facilities, and other related services.
With support from the Pico Group - headquartered in Singapore and with branch offices in 36 countries - Pico Indonesia plans to establish the EV Centre as part of ongoing developments in Indonesia's EV sector.
The company has been active in Indonesia in the fields of advertising, marketing, communications, and other activities within the meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.
"The opportunity to manage a thematic mall focused on electric vehicles aligns with the Pico Group's objectives to engage in environmentally oriented business sectors and utilise available technologies," said Kun Theng, Executive Director of Pico Indonesia.
The Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) has expressed support for the establishment of an EV Centre that consolidates electric vehicles and their supporting ecosystem in one location.
"Periklindo encourages participation from the broader business sector, including EV brand owners, supporting industries, educational institutions, and community organisations.
After Jakarta, the initiative should also be expanded to other major cities," stated Moeldoko, Chairman of Periklindo and initiator of the Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) brand.
The design and layout of the EV Centre were developed by PHL Architects (Patrick Lim and Hendy Lim), who were responsible for the initial concept, tenant design, and construction planning. The objective is to create a unified structure that still reflects the individual identity of each brand.
The first phase of development will take place in Pluit, North Jakarta, specifically within the Pluit Junction building. The site is located near Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, PIK 2, and central Jakarta, and is accessible by multiple modes of transport.
An area of approximately 6,500 square metre is currently being considered for the EV Centre. Pico Indonesia aims to implement the project in a transparent and structured manner.
With support from Periklindo and industry participants, the EV Centre in Pluit is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2025. Further expansion is being planned for Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, and Bali.
